Could You Be Our Next Trustee?

Help shape a different approach to animal welfare - one that begins with awareness

Close-up of a sea creature, likely a marine animal, with orange and brown textured skin and an open, oval-shaped mouth.

We're looking for new trustees to join the Board of Animal Aware and help shape the development of a new educational approach to animal welfare.

Animal Aware is developing Consciousness-Based Animal Welfare, an educational approach that explores how greater awareness and understanding of animals can influence how people perceive, relate to and make choices about them.

Our approach begins with awareness and reflection. Rather than simply telling people what to think or do, we encourage people to look more closely at their assumptions, relationships and choices involving animals.

We believe this can help people see more clearly, make more conscious choices and reduce harm to animals.

Who are we looking for?

We're particularly interested in hearing from people with knowledge, experience or an interest in:

Consciousness and awareness

Including mindfulness, meditation, reflective practice or related approaches.

Animal welfare and animal ethics

Including professional, academic or practical experience.

Veterinary science

Including veterinary medicine, veterinary research, animal health, behaviour or related fields.

Education and teaching

Including teaching, learning, educational programmes, resources or public engagement.

Fundraising

Including grant applications, donor relationships and charity development.

We'd also be interested to hear from people with other experience, skills or perspectives who feel they could contribute to the development of Animal Aware.

Why become a trustee?

Animal Aware is at an early stage of development. This means trustees will have the opportunity to help shape the organisation from the beginning, contributing to its direction, governance, educational work and future development.

You don't need previous trustee experience.

We're looking for people who are thoughtful, open to different perspectives and interested in the relationship between awareness, human choices and animal welfare.

You may have professional experience, academic knowledge, practical experience or a perspective that you believe could contribute. What matters is what you can bring to the organisation and your interest in its purpose.

What's involved?

· Quarterly Board meetings held online. Meetings usually take place mid-week in the early evening

· You don't need to live locally to get involved

· Additional involvement is flexible and can fit around your other commitments

Could you contribute?

If Animal Aware's approach resonates with you and you feel you could contribute as a trustee, we'd be very interested to hear from you.

You don't need to fit neatly into one of the areas above. We're interested in people who can bring knowledge, curiosity, commitment and a willingness to help shape something new.

Join us and help shape the future of Animal Aware.

How to apply

To apply, please email hello@animalaware.uk telling us about your experience and how you feel you could contribute to the future development of Animal Aware.
